About

The Gender Data Monitoring App has been launched by members of theData and Web Science Lab (DATALAB), the research group of the Department of Informatics, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece, being specialized in ICT research and innovation on human-centered data science and multi-scope analytics. The Gender Data Monitoring App (by Datalab AUTh) is a platform for analyzing and visualizing data related to discussions on gender issues. It collects tweets from the Twitter social network with the aim to raise awareness and inform the public on trends relevant to gender issues, most discussed aspects, most active users and other resulting statistics.

The app provides a comprehensive overview of public views towards various gender issues, and contributes to understanding –-from a data science perspective–- how the public reacts and responds to contemporary and everyday topics having to do with equality, diversity, and inclusion. In addition, it informs users about statistics resulting from the analysis of the Twitter data. Our intention has been to detect and present public discussion topics evolving around gender issues, dominant trends in users’ attitudes towards gender (in)equality, and provide a platform that reflects in an evidence-based way the dominant discourses that surround gender issues.
